The machine maintain pressure continues to fill the mould cavity, compensating for shrinkage, and this happens till the middle of the sprue solidifies. However, in thicker sections the sprue solidifies earlier than the whole Freediving Snorkels molding is stable, and a pocket of molten suspension at the thickest section is isolated. During solidification of this molten pool of suspension, shrinkage occurs with out the compensating affect of maintain pressure, and the ensuing stresses cause cracking.
